Practices that prevent heartbreak
- One canonical folder. Do not enable two sync clients on the same directory.
- After a major app update, verify a test file actually appears in Drive/Dropbox web, not only in WPS’s recents.
- For contracts, keep a local PDF even if cloud says “saved.”
- Sharing links: set view-only unless the other person must edit.
Local-first rule
If the file cannot be rewritten in a night, it lives on a disk you control, then maybe also in a cloud. Cloud is the second copy. Recents in WPS is not a backup.
One sync brain
Do not stack WPS Cloud + OneDrive + Drive desktop + Dropbox on the same folder. Pick a vendor. For teams already in Google, keep Google. For Microsoft shops, OneDrive. WPS Cloud is for people whose whole life is already WPS.
Sharing
View / comment / edit. Revoke when the contractor is done. Expiry if the product offers it. Do not put payroll in a link that is “anyone with the link.” Comments in cloud docs are not a signed contract.
Verify after updates
2026 Android reviews: files look in the cloud, live in a paid WPS silo, Drive hooks regress. After an update, drop probe.txt in the connected folder, open the vendor’s web UI, confirm. If it is missing, export local and upload with the vendor app.
Co-edit is excellent when two humans are in the same DOCX. It is not a substitute for Git, and it is not Outlook.
Conflict copies
file (1).docx, file (Ahmad’s conflicted copy).docx — pick a winner the same day. Diff in Writer Compare or by eye. Then delete losers from the cloud so the next device does not resurrect them.
Link sharing hygiene
Anyone-with-the-link on an exam paper is how the exam paper is on the internet. Named people, view-only, expiry if offered, revoke on Friday. Comments are not signatures.
